Root Canals In Worcester

When teeth are decayed or cracked, they are much more susceptible to becoming infected. And when teeth become very infected, they often must be removed completely to ensure that they do not affect the rest of the mouth. In an attempt to prevent this from happening, endodontic therapy or root canal therapy may be necessary.

What is a root canal?

Teeth have roots. These roots are filled with a kind of tissue that is called pulp. When teeth become infected, it is this inner pulp or tissue that becomes infected, and this is when a root canal becomes necessary.

Your dentist can go down into the root canals and clear them out of the infected tissue. The canals are then filled with a barium-treated material so that an x-ray confirmation of the surgery can be taken. Finally, the tooth is capped with a crown.

When do people get a root canal?

If you are experiencing or see:

  • Pain
  • Discomfort
  • Sensitivity
  • Visible decay
  • Cracking of the tooth

If you are experiencing some or all of these symptoms then a root canal may be necessary. But remember, root canal is an attempt to save your original tooth, which is the best option not only for continued function, but also because it is the best fit for your jawbone.

The subject that people seem to dread the most when dental procedures are discussed is that of root canals. Unfortunately, when they are required to restore oral health, there isn’t much other choice. Teeth can become extremely infected when they crack or become decayed. This enables infections to set in. If a tooth becomes extremely infected, you may be told that it is imperative to have the tooth totally removed in order not to have a negative influence on the remainder of the mouth. The solution to this issue is root canal or endodontic therapy.

A root canal is performed when the inner pulp or tissue located within the root of the tooth becomes infected. The infected tissue needs to be thoroughly cleaned out from the root canals. A barium-treated substance is filled in and the surgery is verified with an x-ray. Lastly, the tooth itself is capped with a crown.

There are some symptoms you may experience that are indicative of a requiring a root canal. These include visible decay or cracking of a tooth, sensitivity, discomfort, or actual pain. You may notice a few of these signs when you are chewing food and/or drinking hot or cold liquids. If you do notice any of these indicators, you should get to a dentist, the sooner the better.
