What Are Dentures

Dentures replace missing teeth and are removable. They are available in full sets or partials. A full set would replace all teeth in a person’s mouth while a partial would replace only a portion. Dentures will not feel like normal teeth but technology in the dental field has led to very comfortable designs for dentures. For full dentures, a custom base fits over your gums. This base is flesh colored and positions in the roof of your mouth. The lower denture is designed to allow room for your tongue.

How Do Dentures Work?

After impressions are made of your teeth and measurements are taken, a laboratory will custom make your dentures. Once teeth are removed full dentures can be used immediately. After a few months, full dentures require a follow up appointment to assess if the dentures still fit correctly. Sometimes as the mouth heals it can cause dentures to become loose. Partial dentures are attached to metal frames that attach to existing teeth. Crowns may be placed on some of the teeth to attach partial dentures.

How Long Does It Take to Heal?

For weeks or months, patients may feel uncomfortable after receiving dentures. Eating and speaking will take some patience and practice. You may feel like your tongue is crowded and you may have excess saliva or some minor irritation. But over time the bones in your mouth will heal and the muscles in your cheeks and tongue will strengthen, giving you a mouth full of beautiful, comfortable teeth that look natural.

FULL: $900 PARTIAL: $750.
